Iceland and Greenland

Expedition Cruising:   Glaciers, Islands and Fjords

July 2006

In Iceland we visited Cheryl’s relatives, gathered information for the update of her genealogy book and attended a family reunion.  We joined our tour in Reykjavik and took the Golden Circle Tour of Geysir, Gullfoss and Thingvellir.  We embarked on the Clipper Adventurer, explored a bit of northwest Iceland, then crossed the Denmark Strait toward the east cost of Greenland.  Heavy sea ice prevented landing so we headed south and then up the west coast.  Zodiac cruises, wet landings, visits to Viking ruins, picturesque villages, and a hike on the Greenland Ice Cap north of  the Arctic Circle followed.

We shared the voyage with 80 passengers and nine naturalists.  The Adventurer is the same vessel on which we cruised to the Falkland Islands and Antarctica in 2004-2005.
